Hi Hats, Kicks and Compression
Ok... I recently read this post somewhere. This is different, however I think it may sound distorted. Let's try it out.
"I having trying for a long time to make my beats have a lot of rythmn and drive. It's hard to get my kicks, snares and hats to sound professional. What I do is create the kick, snare and hats on one track and the add heavy compression. Something like 6:1 or 8:1, turn the threshold just a little bit from the left and a quick attack and medium release. This seems to give my drums the thump, and also seems to add rythmn when the compression evens out the sound. "
